The Fallen Vestal

The Fallen Vestal
1103&0509

You were born selected.
Your first cry was your first protest.
But fair you were created.
To be envied and to be praised!
They put you up high.
They honor your words.
They gave you possessions.
A lady they adore!
You’re a woman of power.
As long as you keep your vow!
For if you are to break.
You’ll be kissing hatred!
You vow loyalty to your Goddess.
The first rule you cannot detest.
For She gave you your honor.
And in her anger you are spared.
The second is to keep the torches burning.
To give light to her hallowed temple.
Like you with your heart in darkness.
The light of hope is all you have.
And the final rule for you to keep.
A celibate life and your vow of chastity!
That when love knocks on your door.
Shed tears and never to answer its call.

You sacrificed too much.
But your beauty remains unscratched.
Oh Fair Lady! You may regret not!
But inside you a heart that needs love.
Yes! You can do nothing.
Because you were chosen!
If you are to break the third rule,
Which your heart desired,
They will not only chastise you.
But it’ll cost you your honored life.
They will punish to death infront of you.
The man whom you loved!
You may be insulted in hatred.
But nothing compares the heart in pain.
And soon you will face too.
Same fate as those before you!
They may never touch your beauty.
But they will deny you dignity.

You are alone in the darkness.
Stench stones surround you.
You can smell its emptiness.
Because you breaths won’t leave you!
A loaf of bread,
From the luxury you once have.
An oil lamp,
From the torches you once burnt.
Soon when nothings left,
In the darkness you’ll starve to death!
Perhaps it’s an irony.
For you to be buried alive!
Alone in your dark cold tomb,
Before life leave, memory creeps.
Like so many before you.
Who offered their lives.
For a moment bliss!
That love is the only way to live.
And that death occurs.
The moment fate denies you love.
